Made to measure, nothing cut to fit

Ken Luke and team started Shutter World. Working from Ossett in West Yorkshire, our own staff have surveyed, made and fitted plantation shutters for UK homes for more than 25 years. None of the work goes to sub-contractors.

Built on Ken's years in bespoke joinery

Ken knew how good a properly tailored shutter could look, and the high street fell a long way short of it. So he set up a firm that cares more about precision than volume, and more about how long a shutter lasts than how fast it goes in.

Traditional joinery and modern design meet at your first visit. We design, make and fit each shutter for the window it goes in, so each one looks like part of the house, fitted tight to the window with a neat, clean finish.

Cutting standard shutters down to size is not how we work. We make the frame, each louvre and every other part to the sizes we measure on site, so no filler or cover strip ever has to hide a bad fit.

Ken

Ken spent years in bespoke joinery before he started Shutter World. High-street shutters annoyed him, because he knew how much better a properly tailored fit could look. He still takes on the tricky installs himself, and every job we do follows the rule he set: we measure to fit, and we never cut a shutter down to fit.

Design consultant

Scott

Scott runs our home visits in West Yorkshire and further afield. He goes into every house looking for the right design for the window, and he leaves the hard sell to other firms. Period properties are his speciality, along with odd-shaped and heritage windows, where the frame has to be designed around the glass.

Survey and measuring

Our surveyors

Measuring is where most shutter jobs go wrong. We train our surveyors to catch what a standard measure misses, like a leaning wall, a sill that isn't level or the small quirks you find in older UK homes. Each figure they take goes straight onto the spec your shutters are made from.

  • Detailed surveys
  • Shaped and angled windows
Fitting

Our fitters

Shutter World employs every one of its fitters full time. You won't get agency staff or a sub-contractor. Our fitters turn up when they said they would, keep your room clean and own the finished job, and we check each installation against our quality list before we go.

  • Signed off on quality
  • On time and tidy

Sourcing and checks

Before anyone makes a shutter, someone has to choose what it's made of. Our sourcing team picks A-grade hardwoods from sustainable sources, plus advanced composites, and they inspect each shutter before it gets anywhere near your window.

A Victorian terrace with an awkward bay

Mr and Mrs Sutcliffe from Wakefield had always held back from shutters, in case their uneven bay made them look wrong. They wrote to us once the job was done.

We live in an old Victorian terrace, and we were always hesitant about shutters because our bay window is slightly irregular. We feared an installation that would look 'off' or spoil the character of the room.

From the moment Scott came for the home visit, our fears disappeared. He advised us on a frame design that would make up for the quirky measurements. He wasn't pushing a sale; he was solving a problem. The solid wood product he showed us was far better than any sample we'd seen from competitors.

The installation, led by Ken, was equally flawless. They arrived on time, were incredibly tidy and worked non-stop. The shutters fit like they were always meant to be there, and the light control is transformative.

Shutter World delivered on every promise. An absolute five-star experience.

  1. Our own staff on every visit

The surveyor, the designer and the fitters who come to your house all work full time for Shutter World. We run each part of your job ourselves, which means we answer for each part too.

  2. Made to your window, never trimmed

Plenty of firms take a standard shutter and pack out the gaps with fillers and cover strips. We won't do that. We make each part to the exact size of your window, and that goes for bays, angled frames and odd shapes as well.

  3. Honest advice first

Our consultants are there to solve problems. When a style won't suit your window or your room, we'll say so and point you to one that will. We would rather keep your trust than win one order.

  4. A guarantee with names behind it

Our guarantee covers your shutters and our workmanship, and a named team stands behind it. You'll know the names of the people who fitted your shutters, and if anything needs looking at later on, you can come straight back to us.
