Reception room garden doors with bi-fold shutter panels

Bi-fold shutters that concertina back

The panels fold in pairs along a track and stack left, right or both ways. Use them over a wide window or a set of patio doors, or to split a room in two.

Bi-folds for wide openings

Hung from a track, bi-fold shutters fold up like a concertina. Wide windows, big bays, French doors and bi-fold patio doors suit them, because hinged panels on an opening that size would get in the way. You choose which way the panels stack: left, right or both.

There is a track at the top and another at the bottom. If your floor is wood, tile or laminate, we can sink the bottom track into it (not into carpet), so there is no lip to catch your toes. A flush track also means the panels can divide a room, say between where you eat and where you sit.

  • Folds out of the way

Folded flat to the side, the panels need less space than a pair of curtains or hinged shutters do.

  • Flush with the floor

With the bottom track sunk into wood, tile or laminate, there is no edge for your foot to catch.

  • Divides a room

A run of bi-fold panels can split an open-plan space into a dining end and a living end.

Ranges that make bi-fold shutters

Four ranges make tracked shutters: Seattle, Georgia, Boston and Montana. The last two will also hang the panels from the top track alone, leaving the floor clear.

Between them, the five ranges offer 41 colours and stains, and four of them will match a custom colour.

Questions we get on bi-fold shutters

What is a bi-fold shutter?

A run of shutter panels that folds up against itself as you open it, sliding on a track. Use them where you want the whole opening clear and the view back, on big windows, patio doors and other wide openings.

How do they work day to day?

Slide the panels along and they fold up two at a time, stacking at one end or at both. For light, tilt the louvres. For a clear opening, fold the set all the way back.

Will they work on my patio doors?

Yes. Patio, French and bi-fold doors are popular places for them. You get privacy and light control, and the panels tuck away to the side when you want to go out.

Does there have to be a floor track?

Not in Boston or Montana. Both can hang the panels from the top track only, as long as each panel stays inside a width limit. In the other ranges we sink the lower track into a hard floor, which means wood, tile or laminate rather than carpet.

Can they divide a room?

Yes. Set the lower track flush in a hard floor and a line of bi-fold panels becomes a room divider or a folding inside door, between a dining area and a living area for instance.

Will they cut out the light?

Only as much as you want. Tilt the louvres for more light or less, or fold everything back and the daylight floods in.

Which ranges make them?

Four ranges take a bi-fold track. Montana is premium hardwood, Boston has hardwood panels, and Seattle and Georgia are engineered wood. We help you choose between them at the design visit.
