Blackout shutters with a blind behind
Shutter & Shade puts a honeycomb blind at the back of the shutter to stop the light that creeps round the frame and through the slats. Shut the louvres, pull the blind, and you choose how dark the room gets.

Blackout for shift workers and nurseries
Even closed, a shutter lets a little light leak round its frame and between its slats. Shutter & Shade cures that: a honeycomb blind goes in at the back of the panels. Close the louvres, lower the blind, and the room gets as dark as you like.
It helps shift workers who need to sleep through the day, babies and children at nap time, and anyone woken by first light. It works in a home cinema as well. We make Shutter & Shade in the Seattle and Montana ranges, measured and built for your window.
The blind behind
Fitted at the back of the panels, a honeycomb blind catches the light that leaks past the frame and slats.
Day sleep after a shift
After a night shift you can shut the room up and get your sleep, even on a bright afternoon.
Naps in the dark
A darker nursery makes naps and early bedtimes easier for babies and young children.

Questions we get on blackout shutters
Not answered here? Ring 08707 545 300 or bring it up at your free design visit. We are open 7 days, 9am to 6pm.
How do your blackout shutters work?
We call them Shutter & Shade: a shutter with a honeycomb blind fitted at the back. During the day you use the shutter for privacy and light, and at night the blind stops whatever light gets past.
Shutters already block light. Why add a blind?
Most of the sun, yes, but light still sneaks round the framing and through the gaps in the slats. The blind behind stops that, so you can black the room out.
Will they help me sleep after a night shift?
Yes. Shutters closed and blind down keeps the daylight out, so if you work shifts or nights you can get decent sleep during the day.
Are they a good idea for a nursery?
Yes, and for children's bedrooms too. Daytime naps and bedtime routines go better in a darker room, and so do those light summer evenings when a child will not settle.
Which ranges do they come in?
Seattle and Montana. Seattle is our most popular range and the affordable option, while Montana is premium hardwood with 41 stains and paint colours to choose from.
What about big windows?
Yes. Large bedroom windows, bays and floor-to-ceiling glass are all made to measure, and sizing each one to its window keeps the light gaps small.
Should I choose these over blackout curtains?
A lot of people do. Shutters last longer, let you fine-tune the daylight and look tidier than heavy fabric, and the blind takes care of the dark at night.
