Conservatory windows lined with white plantation shutters

Conservatory shutters for every season

Conservatories bake in summer, lose heat in winter and leave you on show. Fit shutters across the walls and doors and you decide how much light, heat and privacy the room gets.

Taming the glass in a conservatory

With glass on most sides, a conservatory brings the garden indoors, along with the glare, the summer heat, the winter cold and the neighbours' view in. Angle the louvres for a softer light by day, and close them up for privacy once it gets dark.

No two conservatories are the same. One has angled bays and French doors, another full-height glazing or triangular panels. We take the size of every window and door, then make the shutters as tier-on-tier, café style or full height, with panels shaped to fill the angles and triangles.

  • Cooler on hot days

Close the louvres and the sun and glare stay on the other side of the glass.

  • Warmer through winter

Closed shutters put another layer over the glass that holds the heat in.

  • Private after dark

Shut them when the lights come on and next door cannot see in from the garden.

Questions we get on conservatory shutters

Not answered here? Ring 08707 545 300 or bring it up at your free design visit. We are open 7 days, 9am to 6pm.

What do conservatory shutters cover?

The windows and doors of the conservatory. They keep the sun in check, keep you private and put a layer over the glass, and you can still open them up for a bright room.

Can they stop the room getting too hot?

They go a long way. Shut the louvres and most of the direct sun stays outside, and the heat with it. Tilt them instead to keep the light and lose the glare.

Do they help in winter?

Yes. In 2023 the BBSA tested shutters at the University of Salford's Energy House Laboratory and found shutters can cut window heat loss by as much as 36%. They help keep the draughts off the glass as well.

Can you fit any conservatory?

Lean-to, gable-end, Victorian, Edwardian, P-shaped and T-shaped conservatories, and modern glass extensions too. Every window and door is measured, and each shutter is made for it.

What about the doors?

We make shutters for conservatory French doors and bi-fold doors, either hinged or on a track, so the way out to the garden stays open.

Can you cover the angled panels up top?

Yes. Angles, triangles and roof segments all get shaped shutters, which Georgia, Boston, Montana and Hollywood make and Seattle does not.

Can I still let fresh air in?

Yes. With the windows behind open and the louvres tilted, the breeze gets in, and you stay private with the strongest sun kept out.
