About this policy

Thank you for reading our Privacy Policy. You trust us with your information whenever you use our website services, and this policy sets out to help you understand which data we collect and why, and how we use it.

Sharing information with us lets us improve our services for you even further. We can, for instance, show you search results and ads that are more relevant, make sharing with others quicker and easier, or put you in touch with people. We want you to understand, while you use our services, how we use information and how you can keep your privacy protected.

This matters, so please take the time to read it with care. Don't forget that there are controls you can use for managing your information and for protecting your privacy and security. We have aimed to keep this policy as simple as possible.

Seeing, correcting and deleting your data

As a customer, you have the right at any time to access, correct and delete the personal data that relates to you, and to object to its processing. To do so, send us a written request.

Shutter World does all it can to take suitable precautions that protect the security and privacy of personal data and prevent unauthorised third parties from altering, corrupting, destroying or accessing it. We do not, however, control every risk that comes with using the internet, and for that reason we warn anyone using this website about the potential risks of how the internet works and is used.

This website may link to other websites or internet sources. Shutter World has no control over those websites and external sources, so it cannot be held responsible for providing or displaying them, nor can it be held liable for any content, advertising, products, services or other material you can get on or from them.

Controlling your personal data

Many of our services let you view or edit your personal data online, and you can make choices about how we collect and use it. The way you access or control your personal data depends on which services you use.

Whether our website sends you promotional communications by email, SMS, post or telephone is your choice. To opt out of promotional emails or SMS messages from us, follow the directions in the message itself.

Another way to choose whether you receive promotional email, phone calls and post is to visit and sign in to our Promotional Communications Manager. There you can update your contact information and preferences, unsubscribe from email subscriptions, and decide whether we pass your contact information to our partners. None of these choices applies to the mandatory service communications that certain website services include.

The data we collect

We collect data so that we can operate effectively and give you the best experience of our services. Some of this data you give us directly, for example by creating a personal account. We get some by recording your interactions with our services, through technologies such as cookies for example, and from error reports or usage data sent by software on your device.

Third parties, other companies among them, also supply us with data. For example, we buy demographic data from other companies to supplement the data we collect. We also use other companies' services to help us work out a location from your IP address, so that we can customise certain services to where you are. The services and features you use decide which data we collect.

What we use the data for

Our website uses the data it collects for three basic purposes:

  • running our business and providing the services we offer, which includes improving and personalising them
  • sending communications, promotional communications among them
  • showing advertising.

For these purposes, we bring together data collected through the different website services you use, so that your experience is more seamless, consistent and personalised. To enhance privacy, though, we have built in technical and procedural safeguards that are designed to stop certain combinations of data. For example, while you are not signed in (unauthenticated), we keep the data we collect from you apart from any account information that identifies you directly, like your name, phone number or email address.

Who we share data with

We share your personal data when you consent, or where it is necessary to complete a transaction or provide a service that you have asked for or authorised. For instance, if you tell us to pass your content to third parties, we do so.

When you make a purchase and give us payment data, we will share that data with banks and other organisations that process payments or provide other financial services, and also to prevent fraud and reduce credit risk. Personal data is also shared between our controlled affiliates and subsidiaries.

Vendors or agents working on our behalf also receive personal data from us, for the purposes this statement describes. For example, a company we hire for customer service support, or to help keep our systems and services protected and secure, may need access to personal data to do that work. Such companies must meet our requirements for data privacy and security, and they are barred from using personal data from us for anything else.

We may also disclose personal data during a corporate transaction, a merger or sale of assets for example.
