Too much light from a skylight

A skylight floods a loft, a kitchen extension or a stairwell with light, and some days that is more than you want: the screen disappears in the glare, the room overheats, or the sun has you awake at dawn. With a skylight shutter you angle the louvres to take the edge off, or shut them and the room goes darker.

Velux, Fakro and Keylite windows all take them, as do other makes of roof window. It clips into the window recess and comes out when the glass needs cleaning. We measure the opening, the slope and the depth of the recess before making the shutter.

  • Screens without glare

    Angle the louvres and the sun stops bouncing off your screen when you work up in the loft.

  • Darker for sleep

    Shut the louvres to darken a bedroom under the roof at bedtime.

  • Clips in and out

    It clips into the recess and lifts out whenever the glass needs a clean.

Any of the five ranges works in a loft bedroom or office. In a bathroom we would make it in Hollywood, as it is highly water resistant.

What is a skylight shutter?

A shutter for a roof window, Velux or skylight. It puts the light, the privacy and the heat under your control, and the room can still be bright whenever you like.

Do you make them for Velux windows?

Yes. We also make them for Fakro and Keylite, other makes, and custom-made roof windows. We measure the window and the angle it sits at during your free design visit.

Will a loft stay cooler with them?

They help. Shut the louvres in summer and a good deal of the sun's heat stays out, and in winter the extra layer keeps the warmth in.

Will they darken a bedroom?

A lot darker. With the louvres shut, most of the light stays out, which is what you want in a loft bedroom, a nursery or a media room.

Do they come out for cleaning?

Yes. They clip in, so you can lift them out of the recess whenever the glass needs cleaning or the window needs a service.

Which rooms are they for?

Any room where a roof window brings in plenty of light: kitchens, bathrooms, stairwells, home offices, attic bedrooms and loft conversions. In a bathroom, pick Hollywood, which is highly water resistant.

Will they stop glare on my screen?

Yes. Tilt the louvres and the direct sun stays off the TV, laptop or tablet while daylight still reaches the room, a help in a loft office.
