Which Shutter Range Should You Choose? Seattle, Hollywood, Boston, Montana and Georgia Compared

Shutter World makes five plantation shutter ranges, and the right one depends on the room and the material you want. Hollywood is 100% waterproof for wet rooms. Seattle, Boston and Georgia are engineered or composite ranges for kitchens, bedrooms and everyday rooms. Montana is premium sustainable hardwood, priced from £505 per m².

How do I choose between the five ranges?

Start with how much moisture the room sees, then pick the material, then check the budget. Wet rooms point to Hollywood, our waterproof range. Kitchens and laundry rooms suit Boston, Georgia or Seattle. Living rooms, offices and heritage homes suit Montana hardwood.

Here's the full set side by side.

Range Material Best suited to
Seattle Engineered wood, polypropylene finish Living areas, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, nurseries
Hollywood 100% waterproof materials Bathrooms, kitchens, wet rooms, conservatories
Boston Engineered wood core, MDF frame Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, bay windows
Montana Sustainably sourced premium hardwood Living rooms, bedrooms, offices, heritage homes, patio entrances
Georgia High-density MDF core, polypropylene coating Damp-prone rooms, full-height, tier-on-tier, café style and tracked layouts

Every range is made to measure. We reject the cut-to-fit approach, so each frame and slat is built for your specific window.

Seattle: engineered wood on a budget

Seattle Shutters are our budget-friendly range. The engineered wood has a resilient, moisture-resistant polypropylene finish that looks like painted timber and wipes clean. Louvres are adjustable, there's no cord to deal with, and you choose from neutral tones.

Seattle works in living areas, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, nurseries and kids' rooms. A family with a nursery and a playroom, where fingerprints and spills are guaranteed, is the typical fit.

Hollywood: the waterproof choice

Hollywood shutters are 100% waterproof. They resist steam, splashes, humidity, warping, cracking and fading, and they need very little maintenance. We recommend them for bathrooms, kitchens, wet rooms and conservatories.

The range comes in contemporary colours, finishes, slat sizes and frame options, and each set is custom measured. If a shutter will sit above a bath or beside a shower, this is the range we specify.

Boston: engineered wood with a tough frame

Boston Shutters pair engineered wood cores with a tough MDF frame. They're built for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms without swelling or degrading over time, and they resist warping, chipping, cracking, dust and grime.

Colour options include crisp white and a rich wood-tone effect. The range also insulates naturally, blocking heat in summer and holding warmth in winter. Boston suits bay windows and small bathroom openings, and we fit it in residential and commercial spaces.

Montana: premium hardwood

Montana Shutters are made from sustainably sourced, responsibly harvested hardwood. You get natural wood grain, smooth operation and a flawless finish. Finishes run from crisp white and natural oak to bold statement colours.

Montana comes as full-height, tier-on-tier, café-style and tracked shutters. It suits living rooms, bedrooms, offices, heritage homes, feature windows, sliding doors and patio entrances. Customers who choose it often come back for more rooms, and you can read their comments on our reviews page.

Georgia: moisture-resistant MDF composite

Georgia Shutters use a high-density MDF core with a polypropylene coating. The result is lightweight, smooth in operation and wipe-clean, and it handles damp, steam, humidity and temperature swings better than solid wood.

The range comes as full-height panels, tier-on-tier, café style (top half open, bottom half closed) and tracked panels. Finishes include colours and wood-look options, and sample swatches are available. Georgia carries a material and workmanship warranty. See the full Georgia range for detail.

What does each range cost per square metre?

Our prices run from £288 to £632 per m². Seattle is £288 to £360, Hollywood is £368 to £460, Boston is £400 to £500, and Montana is £505 to £632. Price depends on the range, and your survey fixes the final figure for your windows.

Those are the guide figures we publish, and they let you shortlist before anyone visits your home. A house can also mix ranges: Hollywood in the bathroom, Montana in the living room.

What happens at the survey and fitting?

We offer a free home design consultation and on-site survey. Our team measures each opening, talks through style and material, and then builds your shutters to those measurements. Ken Luke, our founder, is an installer himself, and Scott works as our design consultant.

Our AI Design Preview Visualiser lets you see a range in your room before you commit. We also make shaped styles for awkward openings: angled, arched, angled bay, curved bay, square bay, round, skylight, conservatory and patio door shutters. Bi-fold track shutters and blackout shutters are part of the same offer.

We're open 09:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday, on 08707 545 300, and we survey across the UK. Our contact page has the rest. To learn how we work, read about Shutter World.

Frequently asked questions

Which range is best for a kitchen?

Boston, Georgia and Seattle all suit kitchens, since each has a wipe-clean, moisture-resistant surface. Hollywood is the pick when the window sits close to a sink or hob and gets regular splashes, because it's 100% waterproof. Pick on budget and look, and we'll confirm at the survey.

Are Montana shutters suitable for heritage homes?

Yes. Montana is our premium hardwood range, and heritage homes are one of its core uses. The natural grain suits period interiors, and we build it as full-height, tier-on-tier, café-style or tracked shutters. Arched and angled bay openings are made to measure as well.

How do I clean Georgia shutters?

Wipe them with a damp cloth, and use mild soap if needed. Avoid harsh chemicals. Check the hinges and fasteners every so often to keep operation smooth. The polypropylene coating gives a wipe-clean surface, so routine care takes only a few minutes.

Which ranges come in tracked or tier-on-tier layouts?

Montana and Georgia are both available as full-height, tier-on-tier, café-style and tracked shutters. Bi-fold track shutters for patio doors and wide openings are also part of our service. Tell us the window or door type at the survey and we'll match the layout to it.

If you're torn between two ranges for a particular room, send us the room, the window type and your rough budget using the short form below, and we'll come back with the range we'd fit and a guide price per m².
